Renaissance pool tables are designed for those who are looking for more than something to play on; a beautiful masterpiece! Intricately carved in many cases, exquisitely finished in every case, Renaissance billiard tables combine woods of unsurpassed beauty and strength. Each table is painstakingly carved and detailed by master carvers, making even tables of the same design to vary in some degrees - each table is truly an original!
Renaissance tables combine some of the most expensive and exotic woods in the world. Woods like Carpathian elm burl, African sedua, zebrawood and Brazillian rosewood, treasured for their beautiful grains and rich color, grace the top rails of many tables. Alder, Honduras mahogany and Appalachian oak, valued for their strength, beauty and excellence for carving, are used for the cabinets of many Renaissance tables.
The beauty of the wood is enhanced and preserved by a hand-rubbed laquer finish. A piano finish, deep and rich like the finish on an expensive grand piano, is used on many models. A French patina finish, softer in sheen, is used on other models to create a rich, antique look that would take decades or even centuries to achieve through natural aging.
The frame members of a Renaissance table are made of poplar, a hardwood that provides a strong, warp-resistant underprinting for the table's exterior cabinet and a solid foundation for the heavy slate playing field. Poplar also provides exceptional screw-holding capacity for long-term structural stability.
A combination of traditional wood joinery techniques and heavy steel brackets are used to assemble each table prior to finishing. If adjustments need to be made, they can be done at this stage. Then, the parts are imprinted with numbers so the table can be disassembled for finishing and reassembled properly when it is installed. Each Renaissance table is comprised of its own unique components that are not interchangeable with parts from other tables.
